Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarros - Top Book Pick!

Fantasy

Rating: 9/10

If you would have told me that I would LOVE a fantasy story with dragons in it, I would have questioned your sanity. I’m the person who had to bow out of Game Of Thrones the minute the dragon eggs showed up. And yet, here we are. All in on the latest hot fantasy series. Much I as prefer to avoid what the masses are reading; in the end the book was utterly irresistible.

Bookish and brilliant Violet was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life of knowledge and history. Then an autocratic commander, also known as Mom, orders her to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become elite dragon riders. The war college she is sent to attend is awash in death traps and obstacles that are the embodiment of one’s worse nightmare. And there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

But given that fewer dragons are willing to bond to cadets, especially those that might be on the smaller side, Violet is sure she will fail. Add to that the ruthless Xaden, who has a grudge against her family, always seems to be where she is, that her peers are hunting her, it’s no surprise that Violet is finding it hard to concentrate.

Violet is my kinda girl; an unlikely hero, sweet, smart, and sassy, and she loves books and reading. I was powerless to do anything but root for her at every turn.

This book had the best world building that I have read in years, compelling, propulsive, and deadly. An unforgettable adventure from cover to cover with characters that you will cheer on. And a last line that left me gasping!

Footnote: The dragons share their thoughts with their riders, and it is hilarious! If that’s the way get my dose of snarky dialogue, then I’m in.
