Think Twice - Harlan Coben
/Thriller
Rating: 7.5/10
The band of misfits is back together in Coben’s return to his Myron Bolitar series after almost a decade, and every bit of it was a delight!
Myron – a big old softie who tries so hard to keep himself out of trouble…
Win – the ultra-rich, sarcastic bad boy who always manages to get Myron out of aforementioned trouble…
Esmerelda & Big Cindy – the ex-wrestlers who keep both numskulls in check as they traipse around after criminal types…
Myron’s Parents – who have discovered edibles and love regaling Myron with tales of their horny ways…
Three years ago, Myron gave the eulogy at the funeral of his client, Greg. So, when Greg’s DNA shows up all over the scene of a double murder, he is rather taken aback. And thus begins the cat and mouse chase of the dead/not dead guy and the serial killer who not only dispatches his victims but finds someone to frame for his/her dastardly deeds.
Coben is one of the few authors with a deep backlist I have read in its entirety. He is a master of the plot twist. Swerving all over the place until he’s good and ready to bring it all to a satisfying conclusion.
Footnote: the read brought with it a sense of melancholy as these characters are firmly ensconced in middle age. Doesn’t some part of us always feel as if we are seventeen, waiting for our life to begin.
