Road To Heaven - Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson
/Noir Crime
Rating: 7.5/10
Police academy burnout turned private eye Patrick works divorce cases, using his camera to capture dirty people doing dirty deeds in rooms you rent by the hour. But his easy routine is about to be turned upside down by a new case involving a missing girl.
Before the sun sets on his first day of investigation, he will have alienated a pastor, insulted the father, flirted with the stepmother, chased a homeless man and been hit by a car. And that’s all before he discovers the body.
It took a while for the noir feel, a readerly expectation in a private eye book, to ramp up but it was worth the wait. A femme fatale, a clueless husband, gas lighters around every corner, a gritty setting and a tangled web of deceit. What more could you ask for.
This book takes place in Toronto during the year of birth, so I was tickled pink about all the locations we got to visit on the page!
