Baby X - Kira Peikoff
/Futuristic Thriller
Rating: 8/10
In the near future, where advanced technology can create a sperm or egg from any person’s cell’s, the rich and famous face the alarming potential of having their DNA stolen and sold to the highest bidder.
Famous rock star Thorne hires Ember to become his Bio security guard, cleaning up all biological evidence from any place he has been. When they are confronted by Quinn, a heavily pregnant woman claiming he is her baby daddy, they are stunned. This can’t be happening, it’s simply not possible.
Told through the perspectives of these two women, as well as Lily, a journalist, we readers quickly grasp that they all have hefty secrets weighing on them. Secrets that will inevitability be exposed.
I applaud the author, who’s also a bioethicist, for deftly crafting a story about genetics and how they affect parenthood that didn’t overwhelm the reader with the science. We can easily navigate the world she creates for us, in which gene manipulation has become the norm and natural conception a thing of the past, without our eyes glazing over.
I recommend for anyone looking for a captivating, thought provoking, and fast paced story that doesn’t over task the brain matter!
