This is the candid and impassioned memoir of a man whose devotion to true crime emerged as he played at his father’s feet. While on the floor, surrounded by his Scooby-Doo and Six Million Dollar Man action figures, his father would recite to him the daily news headlines. Always with an emphasis on the solving of the unsolved mysteries of the day.

While the book does cover true crime stories with varying degrees of detail, it’s personal to this man’s story. A man who is a wonderful writer, an empathetic advocate for victims, a dedicated seeker in the search for endings to these real-life horror stories, and at his most vulnerable, a mourner the death of his father many years later. That mourning is as tender and tangible as a bruise.

Footnote: This man is no salacious interloper into other people’s misery, his desire to help is both contagious and boundless.
