Cari Mora - Thomas Harris
/Horror/Thriller
Rating: 6/10
If this authors name rings a bell for you, it’s likely due to his bestselling Hannibal Lecter books, including Silence of The Lambs. It’s been 10+ years since his last book was published and if you think the level of depravity in his characters has mellowed in his advancing age, think again.
This book had pros and cons for me, hence the mediocre rating. In the end, the highlight of the read was my timing in picking it up. I needed a change of pace from all the tear jerkers I’d been encountering. And it definitely didn’t make my heartache. The repercussions of it impacting a different area of the anatomy, more in the stomach region!
Pros:
- Total escape from anything remotely resembling reality!
- While he always has female characters in peril, they are never written as victims.
- Unique writing style and avoidance of the repetitive tropes of thrillers.
Cons:
- Too short. With this much violence there needs to be more depth to the story or it feels like an assault..
- The End. Came really quick and felt a bit pat.
- One does have to wonder with a villain this repugnant, why is it that everyone isn’t running in the other direction?
Footnote: Not to everyone’s taste. If you get my meaning…
