English As A Second F*cking Language - Sterling Johnson
/Language (Foul)
Rating: 9/10
If you are offended by strong language and liberal use of the F word you should turn back here.
Both this book and its follow-up, Watch Your F*cking Language, focus on the fact that communication can be better served by language of all kinds, even that which some find inappropriate. A well-placed fuck can certainly drive home a point. For example, which provides a more vivid picture; we made love for hours, or, we fucked our brains out. I can tell you which is my guess, but I would be the first to say I am more broad than lady.
The book establishes from the get-go that fuck is the mother of all swear words. Given the nature of the subject matter we must conclude that the pun here was fully intended. And further, that there should be no limits or concerns on swearing as long as it enhances the point you are communicating. One of my favourite parts is the authors rant (I LOVE a good rant) on euphemisms. Calling them mealy mouthed expressions that filter meaning, talking nice about things that might not be nice. Simply put, the epitome of sugar coating.
Footnote: Rather than work in a challenging environment, is it more of a roller coaster of fuckery? Your choice…I made mine
