Assistant To The Villain - Hannah Nicole Maehrer
/Fantasy/Romansy
Rating: 8/10
Job Description:
Must be organized and detail oriented. Must be comfortable with arson, murder, torture and random mayhem. Must not, no matter the circumstances, scream. Must not tell your boss, “The Villain”, that he’s not all that bad.
That last one is going to be the hardest for Evie, who blurts out every single thought that passes through her head. But desperate times call for desperate measures, Evie needs a job to support her ailing father and young sister. And after all, no job is perfect, right?
Evie soon discovers there is a lot to put up with. Severed heads frequently hanging in the entryway, fire breathing baby dragons wandering around the castle. And, she’s having…feelings.
It’s unfair, shouldn’t evil overlords be decrepit and hideous? Are they allowed to have a jawline that could cut glass? Or hair so luxurious it begs to have hands run through it? Or eyes that when locked upon you, steal your breath? Or muscles that gleam and ripple with every movement? Shouldn’t she get hazard pay for this?
This charming read was mischievous and absurd, with romantic cliches peppered throughout that the author slanted in ways that rendered them hilarious! I’m looking forward to the second book, Apprentice To The Villain. Looks like Evie is getting a promotion.
