Ghost Station - S.A. Barnes

Sci-Fi/Horror

Rating: 7.5/10

Dr. Ophelia Bray wakes from frozen sleep still locked into the coffin like tank. Every breath a searing iciness, every muscle stiff and cramped, every sense excruciatingly straining to haul her back to a conscious state. And that’s before she emerges. Before she finds the crew missing and the ship silent.

She has been brought here to assess a small exploration crew for signs of an illness that drives them to acts of violence. And they are not happy about that. Especially when long buried details of her own violent history become known.

But they have a job to do. If they can just get it done, they can return before anything bad happens. As long as they don’t sleep. They might not like how they wake up.

A desolate planet, a derelict ship, a shadowy crew and nothing but endless night. What else do you need in a space horror book?

Footnote: Full disclosure, the authors first book, noted in the pairings below, got a much higher rating from me. This one took a lot longer to build the tension, resulting in a read that lacked the same sense of claustrophobia for me.
