Congratulations, The Best Is Over - R. Eric Thomas

Humorous Essays

Rating: 7.5/10

I have news for you. Are you sitting down? Maybe grab a cocktail. If you are in your forties, you have reached middle age. It’s a mathematical fact that cannot be disputed. You can smooth out the edges by adding the word “early” in front of it, but facts are facts my friends.

Our author, just past forty himself, has decided to embrace the expanse of these coming years rather than denying them. And so, he jumps right in, and pulls us right along with him.

Full of warm, witty, and candid essays that will make you laugh as well as shed a tear or two, this is a must read, no matter what your age.

A couple of my favourite parts…

  • When our author takes a tumble, breaking a glass and suffering a deep cut. For the first time he can remember, he is completely relaxed. In a state of pure Zen. Apparently, all it took was near exsanguination.

  • Treating the first five minutes of each therapy session as an opening monologue. Nothing beats getting a chuckle out of your therapist.

Footnote: When I found out this author not only loved Stephen King, but that his favourite book ever is The Stand, I was there for it!
