Catch & Kill - Ronan Farrow
/Non-Fiction
Rating: 8.5/10
My reaction while reading this account of the monstrous level of collusion set in motion to protect the rich and powerful from repercussions of crimes they committed left me as mesmerized as I was horrified.
It was so absurd, that at times I felt sure I must be reading a fictional book. But if you are a follower of Ronan Farrows journalistic endeavors, you know that I was not. Farrow found himself having to bring his story of Harvey Weinstein’s repugnant crimes to alternative news media outlets when the one that employed him decided to bury the story. He was undeterred in exposing the truth with no intention of playing into the practice of “Catch and Kill”. The purchasing of a story in order to bury it.
The book doesn’t only cover this one man’s atrocities; others are brought to light in these pages. And while none of them are unknown to us today, the lengths that individuals had to go to, and through, to pry them loose from the furtive clutches of those committing them was astonishing.
A meticulous and gripping work of investigative journalism.
Footnote: Farrow is not only a talented writer with a knack for pulling together a narrative that is captivating and illuminating, but his empathy resonates as he speaks to the survivors of these crimes.
