Miracle Creek - Angie Kim

Fiction/Mystery

Rating: 7/10

A couple running an experimental medical treatment device known as the miracle submarine find themselves embroiled in the drama that unfolds after it explodes, leaving two dead. This well constructed debut juggles seven different points of view, all from richly formed characters, and a monumental tangle of secrets and lies.

This isn’t your run of the mill mystery trope; we have a backdrop that explores the powerful relationships of parents and children. And the lengths that they will go to protect each other, and to lie to each other. Every single person is hiding something, and the reader is left to try and sift through it all.

I normally avoid anything that has “courtroom drama” in the synopsis, but it is used quite brilliantly here to dismantle all the deception.

Footnote: Illustrates quite well that through inaction, as much action, we can alter the world around us and what’s ahead of us can be forever transformed.
