A Version Of The Truth - B.P. Walter
/Mystery/Thriller
Rating: 3/10
By the time the devastating secret that was simmering under the surface for 25 years, teased on book jacket, is revealed, I didn’t much care. Full disclosure, I disliked what I read of this book. Correct, I didn’t finish it, but read enough to warrant a review advising you to give this a pass.
I found the narration stilted, the characters wooden and narcissistic, and the vibe sexist at best, misogynistic at worst. I am very purposeful in my avoidance of giving away anything that could be described as a spoiler, but be warned that this book has a violent rape scene.
Footnote: I read a quote somewhere that compares this novel to A Secret History by Donna Tartt. Which is fucking laughable. That is a great book! Read it instead of this.
