Crib Notes-Spring Sneak Peek
/I always have a running list of books I am looking forward to reading, its essential for a voracious reader such as myself. Rarer are the ones I am really excited about; that I put in my calendar to ensure I pick it up at the bookstore the day of release, that I carve out a block of time in my schedule to start reading. These books fall into that category!
ONE WORD KILL – Mark Lawrence (May 2019)
If You Like…Ready Player One, Little Brother
Touted as the next Ready Player One, all we mere mortals can do is hope that the publishing world isn’t just blowin’ smoke. As the saying goes. A band of geeky outcasts dealing with the struggles of young adulthood get lost in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. We all remember the days when it was just easier to live inside our imaginations!
RECURSION – Blake Crouch (June 2019)
If You Like…Dark Matter, The Company Town
Opens with a woman who tells a stranger, “my son has been erased”, before leaping from a Manhattan highrise. All across the country, people are waking up to lives different from the ones they fell asleep to. That’s all I needed to know about this story to know that I am all in!
CITY OF GIRLS – Elizabeth Gilbert (June 2019)
If You Like…Great Alone, Eat Pray Love
Set in the NYC theatre world duing the 1940’s, this unique love story is told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth. As a young woman she comes to the discovery that you don’t need to be a good girl to be a good person. Given this author’s way with words, this novel is sure to be both lush and lyrical.
THE INSTITUTE – Stephen King (September 2019)
If You Like…Dead Zone, Firestarter
If you are surprised to see a Stephen King novel on this list, then you haven’t been paying attention! Luke wakes up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there is no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents. That’s the point at which I stopped reading any description of this book. In my head I am imagining Stephen King meets the X-Men. Mind. Blown.
