Crib Notes-Scripted Podcasts (aka Old Timey Radio Dramas!)

As a reader and podcast listener that consumes a lot of content, every once in a while, I get bored. Been there, done that. So, I was looking for a little something different when I decided to check out some scripted podcasts. Short nuggets of fictional narrative of every possible sort you can imagine are available and the ones listed in this crib notes where my favs! Perfect for when a book is just too much. I know…doesn’t sound right to me either.

MOTHERHACKER

What drew me to this podcast was the title initially (right?!?), and the actress Carrie Coon as the star. She plays a woman with a gift for gab and an absolute train wreck of a life who finds herself vishing for a shady identity theft ring in order to support her family. Timely and terrifying.

BLACKOUT

Rami Malek stars in this apocalyptic thriller as a small-town radio DJ fighting to protect his family and community after the power goes down nationwide. Great premise for this format and extremely well produced.

BLOOD TIES

Siblings lose their parents unexpectedly in a plane crash and discover several unsavory truths. It becomes a battle of morals over money and is simply great fun. And a well done cliff hanger!

FULL. BODY. CHILLS.

Meant to feel like the equivalent of a campfire story, each episode takes you on another spooky ride. The teller of the tales is none other than Rainn Wilson as a fictional video rental store clerk. Maybe Blockbuster would still be around today if he had worked there.

Honorable Mentions:

Gaslight – think Escaping NXIVM podcast but fictional…
