Nine Perfect Strangers - Liane Moriarty
/Mystery
Rating: 6/10
Full disclosure, I am not a big fan of Liane Moriarty’s writing. I was apparently in some sort of haze post the pleasure of watching the television adaptation of Big Little Lies and I forgot that rather crucial fact. Add on that there’s a bit of a lull in new releases currently, that the premise of this story was great, and here we are.
The titular strangers converge on a remote luxury health resort where they’re promised not just rejuvenation, but reinvention. Some level of nefarious deed and cloaked mystery is promised as we get to know each of the nine characters individually. I went along for the ride until about half way through the book when a mystery of sorts is revealed. The flaccid nature of which had me bored and I was out! It’s possible that a deeper, more complex mystery was revealed after this point, but I somehow doubt it.
Footnote: I realize I am largely alone in my lack of love for this author, but I have yet to figure out why she is so popular. But as I am sure many would say the same about my beloved Stephen King, let’s just chalk it up to personal taste.
