Tattooist Of Auschwitz - Heather Morris
/Drama
Rating: 8/10
At its simplest this book is an invitation to memory. And don’t think for a moment I am implying that it is at all simple. Throughout this book we witness heartbreaking acts of defiance from those who have been entirely stripped of free will and dignity. Our main character vows at the outset..I will live to leave this place.
The delicacy of the language belies the harshness and horrific nature of where this story takes place. Most of us never have to consider, what if we found our soulmate in a place with no soul. To have to snatch moments of love while ash falls from the sky. To have to understand that happiness is not a dream of fairytale perfection, but moments embraced within the life we are living. Wherever and whenever that might be.
Footnote: This one is going to linger awhile. As it should.
