The Lost Story - Meg Shaffer - Top Book Pick!

Fantasy

Rating: 8.5/10

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this, but all fairytales are fiction. Except maybe this one.

When they were fourteen, best friends Jeremy and Rafe went missing in the forest for weeks before being found. One has no memory of where they were or what happened, and the other isn’t sharing. But both feel as it they are in a story they don’t belong in.

Jeremy came back with an uncanny knack for finding the lost. Rafe came back with something else.

When Emily asks Jeremy to help find her long lost sister, he lures Rafe into helping them with the promise of finally sharing the truth.

Turns out they were lost in a whimsical Magical world ruled by Emily’s sister. A world that they didn’t want to come back from. A wondrous world for children who didn’t want to go home.

A lovely story that reminds us that if you are feeling truly lost, or moments in your life are asking more of you than you have to give, maybe you can find yourself in the wonder of a story.

Footnote: I loved the author’s “Storyteller Corner”, snippets and asides designed to guide the reader through the Lost Story.

Recipe For A Fairytale:

1 Princess in distress – a must have, full stop.

1 Magician – if one is not available, then a wizard or wise woman will do.

1 Hero – the more unlikely, the better.

1-3 Villains – don’t skimp on the evil deeds.

1 Royal Family Member – disguised as a “regular” person.

Start with Once Upon A Time and end With They Lived Happily Every After – not to be deviated from under any circumstances.
