I Need You To Read This - Jessa Maxwell

Mystery

Rating: 7/10

Since arriving in New York to escape a past only alluded to in the early stages of this novel, Alex has lived a quiet life. Breakfast at a nearby diner, reading the paper, and working from home as a copywriter. When she stumbles across the advertisement to replace the famous, presumed murdered, advice columnist Dear Constance, Alex takes the plunge. And no one is more shocked than she is when she lands the job.

Despite being afraid someone around her will unearth the secrets she is keeping; Alex finds a few friendly faces that give her comfort. The young and enthusiastic assistant who gives her a great tip to get going, choose the first letter to make you cry and respond to that one. A new boss who believes in her talent and insight. And the handsome banker she runs into at the local coffee shop during a late night at work. But one or more of them might turn out to be too good to be true.

I enjoyed the way the author incorporated Dear Constance letters, some of which were likely ones Alex herself wrote. As they grow more and more desperate, the reader will wonder if Alex might have something to do with the murder.

A quick and easy read with no twists that will come as a surprise to a seasoned mystery reader, nonetheless it was an enjoyable way to pass an afternoon.
