Mother Daughter Murder Night - Nina Simon
/Mystery
Rating: 7/10
Sleuthing becomes a family affair in this whodunnit, cast with a complicated, verging on estranged, group of strong-minded women.
Teenager Jack becomes a suspect when she discovers a body floating in the river she spends all her free time on. Her grandmother, whose living with her and her mom while she battles cancer, resolves to ferret out the real killer. Partly to get the incompetent cops on the case off their backs and partly for pure entertainment value. And absolutely nothing, and no one, will dissuade her. Do not mistake granny for anybody’s push over, she is a force to be reckoned with.
As for Jack’s mom, she gets reluctantly sucked into all the shenanigans. Is a quiet life too much to ask? Yes, apparently it is.
Eventually, the case gets cracked, but by then it’s besides the point. This is more of a story about mothers and daughters and the push and pull of what connects them. And what can break them apart.
