Argylle - Elly Conway
/Spy Thriller
Rating: 8/10
A Russian magnate who has set his dead eyed sights on ruling the nation goes to diabolical lengths to restore to his homeland a priceless artifact thought to be the eighth wonder of the world. The fact that he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals and his actions bring the world to the brink of chaos? Not his problem.
A woman, one of the CIA’s most revered and brilliant spymasters is the only one that can prevent him from achieving the pinnacle of power. But she can’t do it alone, so she recruits Argylle, a troubled agent with a complicated past and a unique set of skills. But he has been living under the radar for a long time and has many reasons for wanting to stay lost.
Full of intrigue, clandestine missions, and fast paced action, this is a great read whether you are a fan of spy novels or not. You will not be disappointed.
Footnote: No, you’re not imagining things. The movie release is in tandem with the book, but this story is different. For instance, you won’t get the author appearing as a character and invertedly finding herself caught up the story of her fictional spy in the book.
Further Footnote: Unbeknownst to me, there was a whole kerfuffle on social media that Taylor Swift wrote this book. She did not. I hope for the sake of the book that isn’t the only reason for the hype.
Book Pairing(s): Alias Emma by Ava Glass, The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, The Continental Affair by Christine Mangan
