All Wrapped Up!

Books Get The Holiday Treatment!

EVERYONE THIS CHRISTMAS HAS A SECRET – BENJAMIN STEVENSON

A Holiday themed installment of a favourite series? Count me in! Stevenson has gifted us with an exceptionally entertaining mystery, full of his offbeat humour and byzantine plotting. This time out, Ernest is investigating the murder of his ex-wife’s partner, killed in their home, while she slept. Who’s suspect number one? She is of course. And who does she call on for help to clear her name? Her sleuthing ex-husband naturally. Ernest is a little peeved that some higher power has seen fit to drop a corpse at his feet at Christmas time. Can he have the case all wrapped up by the big day? I’m not telling. The book is ingeniously structured like an advent calendar; 24 chapters that hold 24 clues as well as other bits and bobs to help with the case. I for one cannot wait to open them all up!

MOST WONDERFUL CRIME OF THE YEAR – ALLY CARTER

Maggie writes cozy mysteries. With no family and a husband she just caught cheating on her, with her best friend no less, she is not in the Holiday spirit. Ethan is a smooth-talking thriller writer at the same publishing house, who she finds herself thrown together with in rather unexpected ways. At their company Christmas party, both receive a mysterious invitation, to a remote estate where the greatest living mystery writer is hosting a Christmas party. And so begins the classic Agatha Christie tropes, all rolled out by the author with originality and creativity. Full of more twists and reveals than this reader could count this book delights on every level!

THE MISTLETOE MYSTERY – NITA PROSE

Molly the Maid is back for her own Holiday treatment. She will have to navigate the festive season while grappling with concerns about her romantic life. As the countdown to Christmas begins, her boyfriend Juan’s actions become more and more confounding to Molly, and she is sure he is going to break up with her. No bodies or bloodshed here, the only mystery is what is Juan up to? Full of nostalgic flashbacks to Holiday’s with her Gran and lots of seasonal traditions, this read was the definition of short and sweet!
