Call Me Hunter - Jim Shockey

Thriller

Rating: 6/10

Based on the plot description, I imagined this would be a globetrotting adventure, an adrenaline fueled story mixed with espionage-like tactics. Sort of like a Mission Impossible set in the art world. Sadly, it was not.

When journalist Nyala collects her mail, she never expects to receive a mysterious manuscript. She never expects to get lured into a story told by a man calling himself Hunter, a man intent on bringing down an elite society of operatives and killers that have controlled the worlds treasures and artifacts for hundreds of years. A manuscript that details not only their crimes, but his own.

The fact that he has addressed her by name, that he is unwavering in his assurance that she has a part to play, that’s just another mystery she sets out to unravel.

The narrative is little more than a recap, a summary of events of how the Hunter became the Hunter; his childhood, his teen years, what happened when he was recruited into an international cabal of art hunters. And so on…

It’s been awhile since I rated anything under a seven, but this book took a promising premise, convoluted the plot and took it in nonsensical directions. Unfortunate.
