A Very Inconvenient Scandal - Jacquelyn Mitchard

Fiction

Rating: 7.5/10

This writer has more than the catalogue of her books that distinguish her from others, she is the author of the first ever Oprah’s Book Club pick, The Deep End Of The Ocean. She crafts stories that are as heartwarming as they are heartbreaking, expertly guiding us through the complexities that emerge within families.

Her latest packs an emotional punch, delivering a page turning family drama that explores the consequences of loyalty, deception, jealousy, scandal, and fraught family dynamics.

Frankie returns home with exciting news; she has met the love of her life, and they are expecting a baby. She is stunned to find that her recently widowed father has similar news to share, and the woman carrying his child, Frankie’s best friend. Well, ex-best friend might be a better way to put it after this bombshell.

And if that was the only secret that makes it way out of the dark in this novel, this would have been a far less interesting read. I’m just grateful I could safely curl up and enjoy the fireworks with no worry of having the flames blow my way.

Footnote: Emily Dickinson once said, the secret to a great lie is that it is in fact the truth but told at a slant. It’s the truth told inside out.
