My Husband - Maud Ventura

Fiction

Rating: 8/10

An edgy and enthralling story about a sophisticated and beautiful woman who spends her every waking moment obsessing over her perfect husband. It’s an unsettling and gradual depiction of the escalation of a wife’s neuroses, but I dare you to stop reading!

After fifteen years, two well behaved children and a house in ideal neighborhood, she is still utterly besotted. But she’s never quite sure if her adoration is reciprocated. Despite the lengths she goes to meticulously planning every encounter and borderline stalking him, she can’t figure out what’s going on in his head. Never mind his heart.

The story starts off with the husband whispering in his wife’s ear, “we need to find a moment to talk. It’s important.” The potential implications of this send her spiraling while she takes the reader back through her week in the hopes of finding an inkling as to what this chat might be about.

Our narrator, also unnamed, is blunt and unnerving in her devotion. At one point reflecting that she can say with certainty that she could survive the death of her children, but not her husband. Wow.

A daring and provocative offering that will linger in your thoughts for days. No matter how much you might wish to purge them
