Suburban Dicks - Fabian Nicieza
/Mystery/Suspense
Rating: 8.5/10
Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool and countless other films and beloved Canadian, has endorsed this book.
And yes, I am shamelessly name dropping in the hopes that it drives my website up higher in those elusive google SEO metrics.
When I mention that the author is a cocreator of Deadpool, it shouldn’t surprise you that this book was an absolute blast!
Cast with two extremely unlikely and highly memorable amateur sleuths, this book is a wild ride from start to finish.
Andie was once a budding FBI profiler who gave up her career to raise her four, five any minute now, children. When she stumbles across a murder scene, all her instincts go on high alert, and she puts herself in the thick of the investigation. Much to everyone’s chagrin. Soon she crosses paths with Ken, a disgraced journalist who needs a win, the sooner the better.
These characters are a hoot! Kenny is unapologetic about his ambitions and the half-assed way he gets shit done will astound you. And Andie has had it with being nothing more than mother and wife, it’s time she fulfilled her crime solving destiny, even if it means taking her offspring along on stakeouts and takedowns.
But don’t think for a minute that all the fun means there is no depth to be found in this book, there is plenty. Our author is intent on exposing an array of prejudices in all their shadowy guises, and yet never fails to go for the laugh.
