Death Of A Bookseller - Alice Slater
/Mystery/Suspense
Rating: 7/10
To call this book profoundly creepy would likely be an understatement.
Roach is a disaffected, true crime obsessed bookseller that develops a disturbing preoccupation with a colleague. A colleague whose life was turned upside down by the murder of her mother. Which leaves Roach practically salivating with excitement. Hence the creepy comment.
Roach believes that something is missing, a hole in her heart. How she came to fill it with murder, death and an unabashed love of serial killers can only be explained by deep sociopathic tendencies. In my humble, unqualified to determine or diagnose, opinion.
When Roach begins to stalk Laura, convinced that they share a dark connection that cannot be severed, it’s enough to make your skin crawl. The author’s ability to put that on the page is worthy enough of this rating, despite some moments that had me questioning whether I should see it through to the end.
This is certainly not a book that will be to everyone’s taste, even my openness to dark and edgy books was tested.
