Magic, Lies & Deadly Pies - Misha Popp
/Romantic Comedy
Rating: 7/10
Daisy’s pies are magical, and I’m not just talking about the flavour. She can add in a dash of hope or joy or bravery. She also has the ingredients necessary to lace them with vengeance, enough to kill someone. But she only goes after domestic abusers so, all good right?
Wrong. Someone has discovered her secret and tells her she must off the people on the hit list they have given her or face the consequences.
Off course, in the midst of all this she meets a charming orchard owner, and she decides it’s the perfect time to enter a pie contest What could possibly go wrong…
This read was a departure for me, deliberately so. I needed something light and sweet. I could have done without the mouth-watering pie descriptions that had me salivating on my walks, but there are worse problems to have.
As an extra treat for you my fellow book lovers, I thought I would share the key ingredients in a romantic comedy. Heat to serve.
Romantic Comedy Recipe (applies to books or movies)
Two lovable leads. And let’s be honest, we need to find them attractive to us in some way.
A meet cute. It’s that moment! When the stars align, and the future love birds meet. Doesn’t matter if it’s amusing or charming or clever or utterly disastrous. It just needs to be memorable!
A unique and slightly bothersome situation. As known as plot…
At least one trusty sidekick. Who among us hasn’t liked the sidekick better at least half the time? And adding a dog or cat? Gold!
Must have montage. Essentially the fast forward portion of our entertainment.
Event that puts the relationship in jeopardy, but only for a short time! Readers can not be allowed to panic, or God forbid, lose interest!
The lightbulb moment. You know the one, when Harry realizes he should be with Sally, when Pat runs after Tiff in Silver Linings Playbook. When Keanu Reeves realizes I am his one true love…a girl can dream right?
A grand gesture or epic line.
A Happy Ending…well, Duh!
