Blackbirds - Chuck Wendig

Crime Thriller

Rating: 8.5/10

Miriam knows how you are going to die. She needs barely the lightest touch and every moment of your fated end, no matter how natural, or otherwise, is hers.

The Rules:

The vision only comes with skin touching skin.

It’s one and done.  No repeats or rewinds.

She’s only an impartial observer, nothing she says or does will change anything.

When she was young, she thought she could save people by giving them a head’s up, now she knows better.  She is a drifter and a grifter who finds herself on a dark and twisted road trip trying to save yours truly as well as someone she has unexpectedly come to care for.

Miriam is a foulmouthed, hard drinking, chain smoking, wickedly articulate snark queen who I may have a serious girl crush on, I mean what’s not to love! She knows just the right combination of words to tear you a new one and leave you with the sure knowledge that she has bested you in every way conceivable. The observations that spill forth from her lips are equally hilarious and barbed.

But don’t take my word for it…here is a snippet…

Setting…hotel; man having a seizure after he tries to get out of paying Miriam, who he thinks is a hooker, by threatening her with violence.

“This is your destiny my friendly neighborhood whore-puncher, to choke on your own mouth meats and expire here in this God fucked motel in the middle of Hell’s half acre.”

Footnote: I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get around to reading one of this prolific author’s works.  I will be back for more!
