How To Sell A Haunted House - Grady Hendrix

Horror

Rating: 7.5/10

The latest offering from Hendrix embraces all the elements fans of his books have come to love. Deeply creepy, gleefully campy, slightly cheeky, and unexpectedly touching.

What is a haunted house story if not a story about grief. Ghostly presences can serve as stand ins for untold horrors from past generations.  This dark novel burrows into dysfunctional family trauma and a life-long sibling rivalry, all while dodging demonic puppets and dolls. Yup, that’s what I said.

Louise and Mark are not handling their forced proximity after the death of their mother well at all.  Battling over who gets what, they weren’t expecting that the childhood home they are trying to sell would make things even more difficult by scaring off realtors. When they begin the excavation of all they have inherited, the long-kept secrets of their family start crawling out into the light, and they start to realize they have bigger issues on their hands.

There is something magical about books where you can tell the writer was having a blast while writing, and this is true of all this author’s books. Don’t miss out on this trippy rollicking ride in the ultimate house of horrors!
