More Than You'll Ever Know - Katie Gutierrez
/Fiction
Rating: 9/10
At the start of this profoundly moving and flawlessly written story, the mother of one of our key characters tells her daughter to always ask herself who is telling the story, and what they have to gain by you believing it.
Something the reader should keep in mind as they are swept away by this book.
Years after the exposure of her double life became the stuff of tabloid writers’ dreams, Lore’s world has grown too quiet and edged with loneliness. When her two husbands discovered the existence of each other, one ended up dead and the other jailed for the crime.
Cassie is a struggling writer with a complicated family dynamic she’s keeping secret from her fiancé, all the while hungering to break free of the cheesy true crime blog posts she gets paid to write. What better way than to pen an intimate story told from the perspective of a rare female bigamist, whose crime led to murder?
But no matter the stories we tell out loud, there are those we only tell ourselves. And behind them, often out of reach, is the truth. Or a version of it at least. The question we hope the book will answer is can these women find their way there? And what part of that journey will they choose to share with us?
While there is murder in this book, it’s very much in the background. At its heart this is a story of two haunted women, each of whom is trying to shed their grief and regret over things long past and find their way to a semblance of joy. Maybe even more than that. And we readers are blessed that their path through connects them not only to each other, but to us as well.
A stellar and immersive read!
