The Lies I Tell - Julie Clark
/Thriller
Rating: 7.5/10
You never see it coming. When the facade falls away, you can’t believe it happened.
They quietly slip alongside you, no fanfare. As if they have always been there, as if they belong. They have chosen you carefully, knowing that you may be susceptible to the fantasy they will create. Eager to believe all of it.
This is the story of Meg. Or is it Maggie. Or wait, Melody. Whatever she chooses as her moniker, she’s a brilliant con artist adept at erasing herself to become whoever you want her to be. For her latest mark she has her own unforeseen, and unwanted, tag along, Kat. A woman who holds her responsible for upending her life ten years earlier. The ways in which these two lives are about to become entangled was irresistible.
I loved both of these smart and savvy women. Their motivations were nuanced and intriguing, exactly what a reader dreams of whenever they pick up a thriller. Don’t be surprised to find yourself routing for the “bad” guy!
This book is not only a ton of fun, it’s also a blueprint for how to become a con artist in the digital age. Not that I have any plans for a career change…none that I’ll admit to.
