Lucky - Marissa Stapley

Fiction/Suspens

Rating: 7.5/10

Lucky is one of my new favourite characters! I felt like I was on a wild road trip with a bad-ass friend.  One intent on getting me in trouble!

Lucky never wanted to be a thief, or a liar, and certainly not an eleven-year-old con artist.  She has tried so hard, every day of her life, to say as many true things as she possibly could. But those around her have not made it easy, especially her father who trained her to be his partner in crime.

It’s possible her story could have turned out differently if she wasn’t gifted at the con.  If she wasn’t able to disappear into made up personas created to fool the smartest of marks.  But then alas, we readers wouldn’t have a book to read.

We open with Lucky being forced to come to grips with the fact she is not a modern-day Robin Hood and that she cannot trust anybody.  On the run from the cops finally firmly on her tail, Lucky discovers she has a winning lottery ticket.  But how to cash in on her good fortune with her face on every newscast? Is a normal life in her grasp?

While I truly enjoyed this read, the wrap up was too quick compared to the pace of the rest of the novel and far too tidy.  Both of which are entirely forgivable given Lucky’s cool factor.
