The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides (Replay)

Thriller

Rating: 8.5/10

As the review for this author’s latest is set to release this Thursday, I thought I would remind you of his first, and frankly far better, book!

It’s rare that you are just humming along in your daily consumption of the written word and get gob smacked by something that just happened in the book you are holding in your unsuspecting hands. It was one of those holy fuck moments, reeling me back a few paragraphs to verify; did that just happen?!?

A woman who killed her husband has not spoken a word since the day of his death. A criminal psychotherapist becomes captivated by not only her, but her story as well.

This sophisticated novel is masterful in the telling. The impact of that reveal noted above is due to the methodical build of the story. Much like therapy itself I imagine.

Believe the hype on this one! A stellar debut.

Footnote: I am going to share a little secret with you. A tip for choosing a book that might tickle your fancy is a blurb on the book jacket from one of your favourite authors. Three of mine were quoted on this one…
