Last Thing He Told Me - Laura Dave
/Fiction/Suspense
Rating: 8.5/10
How do you convey that the latest suspense novel that you picked up was refreshing and unique? Without giving away any of what makes the story distinct from others in the genre?
Well, you don’t really. You just hope that your readers trust your judgement and then keep it simple. So here goes…
Hannah has been married for only a year when her husband, with whom she is deeply in love, disappears. All he leaves behind for her is a note about the stepdaughter that she cannot seem to form a connection with, a note that says “protect her”. While unraveling the secrets of how the characters got to this point, the novel explores what that means at its very core.
I loved the characters in this book, it never felt that they were making the easy choice or falling victim to the cliches of the genre. And the feelings that they had for each other, good or bad, infused every scene.
My best advice if you pick up this read, just go along for the ride. Don’t try to figure it out and allow yourself to be surprised. You won’t be disappointed.
