The Dinner Guest - B. P. Walter
/Thriller
Rating: 9/10
“In those final moments when I knew he was dying, I must confess that through the horror and the blood and the shock, the love I felt for him wasn’t quite as profound as I would have expected.”
Well, no relationship is perfect.
This ingeniously paced and devilishly plotted domestic thriller starts off around the dinner table with one character dead and another holding the bloody knife. You have Matthew, the perfect husband; Titus, the perfect son; Rachel, the perfect stranger; and Charlie, the perfect enigma. If you think I’m going to reveal who’s who, think again.
As the story is told through two of their perspectives, jumping from before the murder to after, the reader is put through their paces trying to fit together all the pieces of this puzzle box.
As far as any more story details go, the less said the better. This is one dinner party you won’t want to miss!
My thanks to Harper Collins, Net Galley and the author for the advanced readers copy.
Footnote: Too often in the case of thrillers and mystery’s the ending is too orderly given the complexity of plotting. In this particular book the author delivers a spectacularly chilling conclusion. Kudos!
