The Charmed Wife - Olga Grushin

Fiction/Fantasy

Rating: 7.5/10

What comes after the Happily Ever After? Fairytales written centuries ago still resonate today, but if you can flip them on their head?  All the better.

In this reimagining there is no happily, no ever, only after.  Cinderella is tired of being trapped in a bad marriage and seeks out a witch for a resolution.  While you might expect that she asks for a love potion to win back her Prince Charming, instead she wishes him dead.  Apparently in this particular fairytale world witches are both apothecary and hit man.

Tropes, timelines, cameos of classic characters, and plot twists all seamlessly shift and morph and nothing is as it seems.

Acerbic and subversive autopsy of a marriage most of us grew up thinking was sublime perfection.  The Grimm’s would be proud!
