Wow, No Thank You - Samantha Irby - Top Pick!

Essays/Memoir

Rating: 8/10

As I close out another year with this labour of love booklovers blog I thought It appropriate to share some of my all time top picks. I attempted to veer away from the popular choices! Happy Holidays and may the New Year be good to year dear reader!

Samantha Irby is a black lady with a white wife living in a red state. She is a self-described middle-aged depressed lady with chronic diarrhea and a snarky voice.

That is a lot of fodder for saucy and hilarious musings on the mundanities of life. Which is the core of all of her collections. I love her relentless mockery of the Instagram and influencer perfect life and the lively proclamations of the likely truths behind them.

Many of her essay’s convey her sheer exhaustion at just being a human person…

  •  The desire to quit Facebook as you find yourself sharing personal moments with people you barely know and those they barely know…

  • The realistic girl’s night out.  Trying to figure out how to split the cheque and not leak urine due to the ever weakening of your pelvic floor…

  • Launching full throttle into the day as yoga and meditation are for people who get up in the actual morning hours…

  • Peanut Butter wild west of our own childhood and the despair of there now needing to be a syndrome for everything…

  • Marriage - why can’t people just say, I’m not going to get better once we legally saddle ourselves to each other…

And those are just a few examples, this collection is stacked with spot on observations and sharply worded insights.

Enjoy!
