Self-Inflicted Wounds - Aisha Tyler - Top Pick!

Humor/Memoir

Rating: 8.5/10

As I close out another year with this labour of love booklovers blog I thought It appropriate to share some of my all time top picks. I attempted to veer away from the popular choices! Happy Holidays and may the New Year be good to year dear reader!

There are few things as pleasurable as listening to a funny memoir, one where you find yourself laughing from the start and barely stopping for breath!  One not even necessarily written by a comedian, some of which are decidedly lacking in the funny.  Finding this was pure happenstance and all the more enjoyable for it!

First off let me tell you that Aisha and I have a lot in common.  Book nerd, brassy, sassy, foul language aficionados, high ranking members of the out crowd and mentors of the linguistics of sarcasm. I may have a girl crush.  We might even be soul mates…

This book is my kind of funny.  Self-depreciating as it provides us with tales of the spectacular debacles that occur in the attempt of living one’s life. Likely meant to caution us against our own potential missteps, or perhaps lure us the other way, where all the fun is!  The authors smart snarky tone and penchant for hyperbole ensure the reader a rollicking ride!  She is a great storyteller with a contagious zest for life.  Listening to this on audio book felt like dinner with a friend who could finish your sentences.

While there were plenty of LOL riffs here, two forced me to stop moving I was laughing so hard; taking a maxi pad for a test run at twelve with no motherly guidance and office life feeling like your surrounded by a bunch of reanimated cadavers.

I decided to pop a few more recommendations into this review in case you are looking for more laughter in your life.
