Oracle - Andrew Pyper
/Thriller/Horror
Rating: 9/10
The Bone Man has left Nate a gift from beyond the grave. One with no exchange policy.
Nate is a haunted man, plagued by visions both in the material world and beyond it. Specters that feel akin to falling into another person’s nightmare midstream. Wanting to make the best of his unwanted endowment, he works as an FBI consultant, helping to solve abductions and homicides. But his pursuit of doing good takes its toll, he must touch someone close to the victim in order to see. As he does that, he also absorbs their pain. The weight of which is then his burden to bear.
The latest case has Nate and his partners chasing a serial killer who likes to bury women and girls alive. Only Nate knows that the killer or killers are merely puppets, someone, or something else is pulling the strings. On the trail of the evil doer, they are eventually led back to the town where it all began for him.
The author delivers another terrifying tale awash with phenomenal characters. The Bone Man will hover on the periphery of your dreams long after you finish this story. Whether you like it or not.
Pyper has long been referred to as Canada’s Stephen King, and while his plots don’t measure against King’s creativity and ambition, his word craft and tone are an almost perfect match. If you have yet to dive into his books you are missing out!
Sidenote: this book is only available on Audible as an audio book. But it is a blessing as actor Joshua Jackson brings the story to life.
