Nameless - Dean Koontz
/Thriller
Rating: 7/10
If our memories make us who we are, who is a man without any? Our main character, who has assigned himself the moniker of Nameless, moves from town to town, righting atrocious wrongs in this propulsive series of short thrillers.
Nameless is a fixer for hire, exacting vengeance for hideous crimes. What makes it interesting is the way the crimes are turned against the criminal.
How to make a predator into prey, the hunter the hunted, the torturer the tortured, to hold captive the captor?
I was intrigued that Nameless believes that the amnesia was engineered by his own request, to escape something he doesn’t want to know. I wanted to know what that was.
I enjoy edgy and gritty crime writing, but fair warning to those of faint heart.
The installments, in order.
In The Heart Of The Fire
Photographing The Dead
The Praying Mantis Bride
Red Rain
The Mercy Of Snakes
Memories Of Tomorrow
Footnote: This fresh format of storytelling, the second of its kind I have come across, connects the stories so that a reader who doesn’t enjoy the short story format won’t feel that is what they have signed on for.
