HIs & Hers - Alice Feeney
/Thriller/Fiction
Rating: 7/10
There are at least two sides to every story. Yours and mine. Ours and theirs. His and hers. Which means that someone is always telling a subjective version of the truth. Not the truth itself.
This author shrewdly and dexterously plays on that, teasing out the suspense, leading the reader to one truth and then turning the tables to reveal it as something else altogether. And that never lets up for a single moment from the first page to the last.
A deceptively simple premise; a journalist reporting on a murder and the detective investigating the case, morphs and twists into something much more complicated. There are tendrils that connect them to each other and to the victim, sharing anything more than that risks spoilers.
A reader who regularly indulges in thrillers will be lulled into a sense of thinking you know where this story is heading, but nothing is as it seems in this book.
This is a quintessential cat and mouse tale, with the reader being the mouse in this literary trap!
Oh, what a tangled web we weave…
Footnote: A trigger warning, one of the characters has a backstory that involves sexual assault. It’s not detailed in any way, but please note.
