The Chosen Ones - Veronica Roth
/Fantasy/Fiction
Rating: 8/10
An author who can create entire worlds out of nothing more than words and enthrall the reader such that they never want to leave…that’s talent only held by few. Roth has further cemented her place in this literary echelon with her latest book.
Years ago, five ordinary teenagers were singled out by a prophecy to eradicate an impossibly powerful entity, known as the Dark One, he is unabashedly wreaking havoc across the world. After he fell, these teens struggled to find their place and purpose as the rest of the world went back to normal.
Now thrust back into the thick of it, they will finally begin to grasp the evil they believed they had banished. Cast with flawed characters, brandishing a unique version of magic, set in parallel dimensions that have fused together, this was a page turner!
Footnote: With Roth’s first foray into “adult” fiction, it was a brilliant move on her part to start her characters off as teens and show their evolution into adulthood. Whether this device was employed by happenstance or with purpose, I applaud it!
