Here And Now And Then - Mike Chen
/Sci-Fi/Fiction
Rating: 7/10
As you’ve no doubt discovered for yourself by now, I love a unique story. This book unquestionably delivers! Our main character Kin works for the Temporal Corruption Bureau in about the year 2100. On assignment in the late 1990’s he gets stranded and spends eighteen years building a new life. When he gets ripped back into his original time, he struggles to balance the pull of two worlds, two desires, two selves…
I embarked on this read believing I would get a bit more sci-fi and what I got instead was more of a love story. A love story that is not afraid to confront the fragility of time and how we best spend it in showing our hearts to each other. This is an intimate glimpse into the heart of a father trying to get back to his daughter.
A poignant gem of a novel!
Footnote: The ending is both clever and surprising, with a twist that is going to be satisfying to the reader that may have signed on for the sci-fi!
