Crib Notes-The Stacks...Chapter Two

Given that my personal books read list is quite extensive, it’s no surprise that I gravitate towards the new releases, managing the ebb and flow of my TBR with nerdy glee. But my bookish choices of the current day have left many of these gems falling through the cracks of my blog.

Let me dig out some great reads from the stacks for you!

THE RUINS – SCOTT SMITH

Trapped in the Mexican jungle, a group of friends stumble upon a creeping horror unlike anything they could ever imagine. Suddenly it’s no longer about enjoying sun drenched days and drunken nights, its finding themselves spiraling into a terrifying nightmare.

P.S. I am so sad that this author hasn’t published a book since the release of this one almost fifteen years ago…

THE TROOP – NICK CUTTER

I would like to tell you that I don’t read every single book that Stephen King gives a shout out to, but I would be lying.

Every year Scoutmaster Tim leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite, shockingly thin and voraciously hungry, they find themselves steeped in more terror than was ever found in their fireside stories.

Maybe don’t read before a camping trip…

VAMPYRES OF HOLLYWOOD – ADRIENNE BARBEAU

A serial killer is working through the Hollywood A-list, leaving gruesome slayings in his (her?) wake.  Each crime scene is worthy of a classic horror movie and all three victims share a connection to the powerful scream queen, Ovsanna Moore.  And truth be told, she looks pretty damn good for a 500-year-old vampire.  But this is Hollywood after all.

THE TAKER – ALMA KATSU

A man finds himself utterly captivated by a mysterious woman who is hiding something.  She begins to tell her story to him and no matter how horrifying it plays out, he feels inexplicably connected to her. A story that spans centuries as it tells of true love that can last an eternity and the price of immortality. Part historical novel, part supernatural thriller.
