Crib Notes-The Stacks...Chapter One

Given that my personal books read list is quite extensive, it’s no surprise that I gravitate towards the new releases, managing the ebb and flow of my TBR with nerdy glee. But my bookish choices of the current day have left many of these gems falling through the cracks of my blog.

Let me dig out some great reads from the stacks for you!

VANISHING ACTS – JODI PICOULT

My reading tastes don’t lean towards the heart wrenching tales, which is no way indicates I am a monster, but when I do dip my toe in, I have found that no author does that better than this one.

Delia believes she is living a charmed life. Raised by a beloved father, mother to a beautiful young daughter, a doting finance, and her dream job of finding missing persons. Then one day she answers a knock on the door that changes everything.

STILL MISSING – CHEVY STEVENS

An interwoven story of the year Annie spent captive in a remote cabin, unfolding through sessions with her psychiatrist, and a recounting of the nightmare that follows her escape.  The struggle to piece her shattered life back together and the continuing search for her captor. Expect the unexpected from this novel.

PRETTY GIRLS – KARIN SLAUGHTER

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man connect two sisters who haven’t spoken since their teenage sister vanished without a trace. Despite their lives having taken vastly different paths, they form a wary truce in order to unearth the truth that has remained buried for decades. Slaughter can always be depended on for poignant and gripping reads.

DEEP END OF THE OCEAN – JACQUELYN MITCHARD

In addition to baring the distinction of being the first ever Oprah’s Book Club pick, this is a really good read. The story traces the impact of every parent’s worst nightmare, the disappearance of a child. Exploring the family’s struggle to move through each day without falling to pieces. I applaud Mitchard for allowing her characters to be flawed and even at times unlikable.
