Crib Notes-Not Your Average 9-5!

Next time you are bemoaning your daily grind, think of these one of a kind career paths!  Maybe it’s time for a change.  Personally, I recently commented to a friend that it was too bad we weren’t criminally minded.  The things we can do with maths…I leave it at that!

A biography of a woman who is paid to clean up homes in the wake of natural, and unnatural, catastrophes and fatalities.  She scours off the last traces of resident’s memories and DNA.  As these remnants resonate with her, our author finds parallels to her own experiences.

SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES & OTHER LESSONS FROM THE CREMATORY - Caitlin Doughty

As a twenty something with a flair for the macabre, the author took a job at a crematory.  Turning morbid curiosity into a life plan!  Full of bizarre encounters, unforgettable scenes and gallows humor.  Also peppered with funeral practices from other cultures.

MAID - Stephanie Land

Explores the underbelly of upper middle-class America and the reality of what it’s like to be in service to them.  How the author remains invisible but sees everything in her client’s lives.  She needed work to support her child and her story is a reminder that choice is often exclusive to those with privilege.

LAB GIRL - Hope Jahren

Memoir of a women in the natural sciences, this is no mere playbook on how to build laboratories to study plant life.  It’s a book about work and about love and the mountains that can be moved when those two things come together.
