The Editor - Steven Rowley
/Fiction
Rating: 6.5/10
A struggling writer finally gets his big break when a famous editor takes on his book. That individual being none other than Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. They build a special rapport as he navigates the complications of publishing a book of autobiographical fiction. Given that the truths on which his particular book are built on stem from the relationship between mother and son, prepare yourself for emotional landmines.
Our narrator ends up learning as much about himself as his mother in his journey to publication. I found this novel charming and both a joy and a sorrow to read. At times a necessity in the telling of stories of family and friendships.
Footnote: This book left me with the following thought; our memory of the past is mostly about perspective. We often find ourselves longing or mourning for something that never was.
