Confessions - Kanae Minato
/Crime Fiction
Rating: 8/10
An ingenious fusion of the diabolical and the utterly mundane. Told with a seemingly composed restraint through the various principal characters involved, this tautly writ story sneaks up on you.
We begin with a mother grieving the loss of her child as she unveils a devasting plot of revenge to her class. A class where the murderer(s) are in attendance. This happens in the first few pages and from there the dominoes just fall.
This novel is searing in its portrayal of sociopathy and a few other nasty qualities. As the title should indicate, this is no gentle unburdening of harmless wrong doings.
Footnote: Know going in that this book is full of deception, most of which is aimed at you. The reader.
