Where The Sidewalk Ends - Shel Silverstein
/Children’s Verse
Rating: 9/10
In this, my first review of 2019, I would like to ask that you continue this blog journey with me with the words of one of the greats. Happy New Year to all!
The Invitation
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
Come In!
Come In!
Look down your nose at me all you want but I like my poetry to rhyme. This book, as with all Shel Silverstein’s works, is full of little life lessons told with silly or scary poems. Such is the level of whimsy they demand to be read aloud, to children of any age.
Footnote: Classified back in the old days as “Good books for bad children.” Explains so much about how I turned out.
